Great Expectations Cave is a 1400-foot deep alpine stream cave in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming with over 7.8 miles of surveyed passage. Great X contains Wyoming’s largest room, The Great Hall, which is over 2,000 feet long and up to 100 feet high and wide.
The NSS purchased the main (upper) entrance to Great X in January 2003. Soon afterward the Front Range Grotto donated $ 1241.00 towards the purchase (both from the treasury and individual member donations to FRG). For this, FRG received a plaque from the NSS making FRG the Honorary Owner of the “Lost Worland River” passage and the cave depth of 383 feet below the main entrance. The NSS paid off the Great X mortgage in November 2006.
